Adelaide Hills
The Adelaide Hills is Australia's premier cool climate region. Predominantly the hills are above 400 metres with Mount Lofty being the highest point at 727 metres. These hills form a North South corridor and beautiful backdrop to the very elegant capital of South Australia, Adelaide. Stretching to the North towards the Barossa Valley and South towards McLaren Vale, these magnificent rolling hills with the high altitude, naturally high rainfall, cool climate, good drainage and fertile soil are ideally suited to viticulture and link these other two famous South Australian wine areas. The first wines ever to be exported from Australia came from the Adelaide Hills. This was in 1845 when a white wine was sent to Queen Victoria.
